Patrick the pretty Irish manwitch invites you in

Part of me just wants Show to roll it along and get on with the Apocalypse, but episodes like this make a case for having it go on with the lighter stuff for a bit longer. I feel like the front end of the season is being loaded with the comedy and MOTW and Sam & Dean getting back on the same wavelength because once the shit really starts to come down, there'll be an avalanche of delicious, plotty goodness and not room for much else.

Barring the knowledge that neither Lucifer nor Heaven would let their speshul prom dresses get all wrinkly, therefore removing any real threat from the Winchesters, the tension of Dean possibly kicking the bucket again was really well done. Sam using his emotional wiles to fool Patrick was lovely, considering how very unsympathetic he was last season. Patrick's comment about Bobby & Dean trying to sit him at the kiddie table hit pretty close to home, methinks, but with recent developments--Sam and Dean trying to change things--I think it was a huge factor in Sam not rising to the bait. (also woobie!Sam is back <3) Hurray for him saving the day :)

Old Dean was so much better than I was expecting. I thought, hey, maybe we'd just get a guy who could do a few of Dean's quirks and I won't have to roll my eyes and wish Jensen's pretty face was on the screen, but I FREAKING LOVED HIM. The first scene with him and Sam & Bobby in the hotel room, I might have written off as a fluke, but by the time he tried to hit on the maid and failed miserably and got that hurt, impotent look on his face, I had to remind myself that he wasn't Jensen in age makeup. WHOA. I was tripping out :DDD The Deanisms were down pat!

Which brings me to Bobby :( We always see him as the one smacking the boys upside their heads whenever they feel sorry for themselves (Dean especially), so seeing him on the opposite side of the table was pretty damning, plot wise. When you've got Dean sitting you down and making it damn clear that you're family and he can't do what he does without you, you KNOW. You guys KNOW Bobby is a fucking goner. Unless Kripke and co. suddenly stop systematically destroying the Winchesters' support, you know they're gonna kill Bobby ;__;

And Patrick! He was incredibly likeable, I canNOT get over it :D His lady friend grabbing at her locket was the most obvious tell in the world, but I felt terrible for him at the end anyway--I knew she wanted to die the moment she told Bobby and Dean what the spell would do. Patrick himself was so charming and confident that it was more of a chore to not like him.

It was just really good :) I leave you with canonical Dean Does Heel Clicks Of Joy (except you know Jensen probably did it as a joke/to make Jared laugh, but they kept it in, much to his chagrin)
