I got incredibly emotional reading this post. It's taken me awhile to be able to leave a coherent comment, so I'm going to leave this as short as I can.
Thank you for posting this. This man changed the world and we're all poorer or the fact that he's not in it anymore. I know a lot of people who don't understand how someone who died before I was born can affect me so much, but he was a genius. My heart aches to think of his family and how today must feel for them, and by family I don't just mean his wives and children and sister, I mean Paul and Ringo too.
When I visited New York for the first time last year, one of my priorities was to see the Imagine monument and the Dakota. I know the latter is kind of morbid, but I stood on that street and looked at the place and felt the loss, and then crossed into Central Park and really felt the love that he's created in people. I had a similar experience in Liverpool a few years back, seeing places that inspired the boys to become who they were. The Beatles have been in my life since I can remember, and were always there for me when I needed them (have you ever noticed how they have a song for every mood, every need possible? I'm not sure how many bands can claim that).
I don't think I'm making much sense, but I wanted to say that today is the anniversary of a tragedy and the fact that you're honouring it like this is just kinda wonderful.
