Nothing RL-y going on right now, so I thought I'd just ramble about some Big Finish episodes I've listened to recently, for the whole two people that care -__-

Eighth Doctor updates: finally got past The Girl Who Never Was and listened to The Blood of the Daleks today; overall, not a bad story at all. It lessened the impact for me in a way because I knew the Daleks would be showing up at any point, so there was little suspense--kind of like how the Cybermen were on the cover of The Girl That Never Was and I was just sitting there waiting for them to show up -__- I like the new format of the Eighth Doctor audios--two-parter episodes, approximately 45-50 minute sections, intentionally to mirror the 2005 TV series. It's quite a relief because toward the end of Eight's time with Charley and C'rizz, there was an awful lot of padding in the stories; someone gets captured here, overly long expositionary speeches there, whoops, the Doctor looses his memory again! And they say Five is the wimp :/ So the faster pace works for me better, especially since it's not the absolute breakneck pacing the Tenth Doctor's TV episodes have become (save for Steven Moffat's episodes, bless him).

And Lucie is an absolute breath of fresh air; she's very much Donna-with-a-Northern-accent, which is A-okay with me, since I love Donna to itty bitty pieces. Did this come out before Rusty created Donna for The Runaway Bride? She might have been the template for her, as her exchanges with the Doctor are very similar.

Lucie: Red Rocket Rising. Funny name for a planet, innit?

Doctor (flatly): I've heard funnier.

Lucie: Go on then, make us laugh.

This is wonderful of course, because if I hated Eight's new companion, I might've had a hell of a time continuing. By the end of her run, Charley had started to get on my nerves. She was exceedingly awesome in all the pre-Divergent Universe stories, then the writers decided to bring in C'rizz to diffuse any romance that would have sprung from the fallout of Scherzo, but in doing so, they also made her quite rubbish at doing anything other than complaining, and C'rizz, useless though he was, at least had snark to keep his character afloat. I actually liked the chemistry between him and Charley better than Charley and the Doctor, as far as post-Neverland/Zagreus/Scherzo stories go. He had a better last episode than Charley did, even if he did, y'know. DIE. But I didn't feel anything but relief and discontent at the lack of closure to her storyline. Yes, I know she got rescued by the Sixth Doctor, but that just frustrates me, because wasn't she just leaving the Eighth Doctor because she'd had enough? And now she's traveling again with a younger incarnation? Ugh, nothing like the Doctor saving your life to make you grateful, huh.

The Fifth Doctor makes everything all better though. Made it through The Kingmaker today, and if there's any reason to consider the Big Finish audios as canon, it's the notion that the Doctor wrote children's books in the wake of the modicum of fame gained after Terror of the Zygons, when he saved London from being destroyed by the Loch Ness monster swimming up the Thames. And the fact that he can't hold his drink. He got drunk with Shakespeare on ginger beer. AHAHAHAHA. This is especially lolarious considering in The Unicorn and the Wasp, Ten downed a bunch of ginger beer as part of the detox. Seems he'd got better at drinking by this time, y/y? XD

The comedy was A+, esp. the mention of the letter being left by "a Northern chap with big ears". OIC WUT U DID THAR, BIG FINISH. Legally, Big Finish can't use any of the New Who actors or characters in the audios since their license only covers the Eighth Doctor era and all those previous. But, they said nothing about oblique references, eh, EH? ^__^ And Richard III's character was blatantly an imitation of Christopher Eccleston's accent and mannerisms, so it's not like we needed him anyway :-P

And the running gag with Erimem breaking peoples' arms was ace XD

Also listened to Singularity and desperately wished there were more audios with Turlough, but at least I've got The Gathering next. Yay, Tegan! I know we'll probably never get more Tegan, but that's all the more reason I've been looking forward to this one ♥

And the numerous Final Fantasy Piano Collections make my life complete ♥
