video killed the radio star
This will be a bit scattered, as I've been intently following the presidential race since roughly the beginning of the year (after the primaries were done, basically), but haven't really posted about politics in a while.
The Daily Show and The Colbert Report honestly save me from insanity, not even kidding. In the midst of all the rhetoric and media coverage and attack ads, it's really refreshing to have a group at the back of the class launching spitballs at the whole process. It's rather odd that a pair of comedy shows are really the only ones doing their homework and cutting through all the bullshit and hype and talking points. And a little sad, too.
Republican National Convention idiocy
Palin's speech and the proliferation of Republican hypocrisy
McCain's acceptance speech (oh yes, hes completely different from Bush)
The biased media holding a double standard in favor of conservatives (Also, Sean Hannity is a tremendous douche and Sarah Palin still cannot hold her own ground.)
Stephen on the lies campaign ads are spreading, i.e. McCain is full of shit.
Stephen's take on McCain's acceptance speech and the continuation of his newest greenscreen challenge: the Make McCain Interesting challenge XD
And just for the lolz
Stephen's character has been slipping more and more lately--he's much less of the right wing blowhard than he was at the beginning and his earnest criticism is starting to burst through. It's actually exactly the thing I want to see, too. The difference between Jon Stewart and him is that Stephen has the benefit of hiding behind a character--something I don't think is cowardly, by any means, but Jon's throwing himself out there every night, without the benefit of such armor. There's real rage and sadness and utter frustration in his act, which isn't to say Stephen lacks sincerity. But it would be an entirely new thing to watch Stephen be Stephen and be as open as Jon is forced to be.
And in the midst of all this, the honest to Bob reason why we have to laugh about the political process is because, as they say, it's the only way to keep from crying. It hurts just to think that any--any humane person (forget liberal or conservative or evangelical or atheist) can think to support a ticket that is against equal pay for equal work, cries "sexism" at every turn, professes Change (stealing the message from the opponent's campaign) and promises only more of the closed-minded mistreatment of the American people, basically admits that they are lying to win, and uses 9/11 as a scare tactic, the most effective political tool that have.
Here's MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann kicking Republican ass. This one is a lot more srs bsns than the others, but really, it has to be, considering how disgusting the GOP's fearmongering tactics are. I'm not saying anything else, just watch.
It makes me sick.
And now, the rules of the VP debates have been changed for Sarah Palin.

*sigh*
And on a lighter note, Stephen Colbert: Dance Machine.
Homeboy is fierce as HALE.
On a similar note, anyone here actually interested in talking politics? I'm afraid I'm obsessed at the mo', and it won't be going away any time soon, especiallyif when Obama is elected, so it'd be cool to chat with some peeps ^__^ Or alternately, make a politics filter so I'm not bugging the shit out of people when I post my millionth Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert clip ;-)
Okay, going back to watch moar MSNBC.

It's already starting to die down now that people are taking a closer look at her. Last week alone, her disapproval ratings rose from 30% to 36%. And not to worry, Joey the Shark will rip her apart in the debates ;-)

Alas, I can't talk politics much, as I find it just frustrates the living hell out of me; I get angry, I get worried, and I get emotional and sick to my stomach. But, I'll read. I just may not be able to respond much.

I get extremely frustrated as well, but seeing that it takes THIS MUCH to help people wake up and see what the hell's going on, I'm just glad that even people as amoral as Bill O and Karl Rove are saying McCain's ads are going too far (amazing, isn't it?), though they're still Repubs, through and through. The fact that there's a lot of lying going on isn't going completely ignored as it usually is, and though the media still has a long way to go, it's a start. Take solace in that fact that in the face of all this corruption and dirty campaigning, Obama's still got the advantage and he's running a clean campaign.

Also, I'd be more than willing to engage in some political talk. It'd be nice to
have a fellow shoulder to cry onknow what others are thinking. :Dno subject
Crying for humanity or that democrats such as ourselves may still have our dreams crushed (however slim that possibility may be at this point?) ;-)

Joey the Shark has been really polite and measured about Palin ever since her VP candidacy was announced, so I agree. I'm sure he's just sharpening that knife he's gonna stick in her back at the debates ^__^ One format or another, there really isn't anything that's going to save her when the shark comes a-hunting.
