Seriously, like, the most awesome concert experience in the history of the universe. I shit thee not, and here's why.
The gates didn't open until 12:45, but I met the uber nice Bella in line, who shared her lawn chair with me and talked about how MCR was great because they loved their fans, unlike the band she was there to see (i.e. Placebo), so there was def some pride going on :-) Once we did get inside, however, it was pretty fucking lame because I wanted to be up front in the pit, so I went to the line and had to wait four hours with my buddy Roman before they'd even let us in D: D: D: Consequently, I was bummed that I didn't get to go see Saosin, but whatever, this was all for the sake of MCR.
An old friend of mine, Chris, and his sister Taylor were coming to the show too, but had lawn tickets (FTL, SRSLY), but they got there later than I did and called me up, and insanity ensued :D We attacked the merch tables with our meager cash hordes (and if any of you are going to PR, I highly recommend picking up some of this new merch, it's totally awesome) and I got this shirt:
SWEET.
Aaaanyways, we went over to some of the radio booths just to get free swag, then returned to the line (where I edged them in, even though they didn't have pit wristbands) and we passed the time by singing Fall Out Boy songs (LOLOLOL), drawing on eachother with green Sharpies, and Chris took a pic of all three pairs of our Converse put together (we call it the Converse Star) ^__^ After the Revolution stage was done, a huge crowd of people flooded in and fucking cut in front of us, so we had to push forward a bit to get even. Behind us, a kid was asking people for excess bits of everyone's wristbands so he could tape it together to get in. FUCKING GENIUS. Taylor handed him her pocket knife to help out (and seriously, how the hell did security miss it!?), but we ended up asking for the help of everyone around us for donations (I also gave up a bit of mine; taking one for the team FTW) and found a black Sharpie to make a huge cross on their tickets, and by the time they started checking us individually to let us in to the pit, we passed with flying colors. STRAIGHT UP NINJA STYLE, MOTHERFUCKERS! We were so fucking stoked that we managed to get Chris and Taylor inside that we totally glomped eachother and scrambled to get our position font and center, bitches.
I'm just going to glaze over the grand majority of the concert in favor of getting to My Chem, but here are some random thoughts:
*julien-K was better and more enthusuastic than I expected it to be, with plenty of drumstick and pick throwing (and matching guitars :D)
*Placebo was quite awesome, though I don't know their stuff, but Brian Malko was playing a maroon and black Gibson SG (like Patricks! ^__^)
*Dude, HIM KILLED ALL THE MOMENTUM. I mean, fuck, would it kill them to do a little crowd interaction? Or for Ville to stop fucking smoking for five seconds to smile a bit?
*I couldn't enjoy Taking Back Sunday's set because someone decided that it was awesome to spend half the set on my left heel :/ LOTS of asshats in the pit that night, for the fucking lose, people. Anyways, Adam was a madman with his microphone-swinging antics and fanboying about My Chem ♥♥♥ Did I mention Chris (and because I was in proximity to him, I) met Adam just wandering around outside after the concert? Because he did. AND IT WAS SO VERY COOL.
So yes. My Chemical Romance has reclaimed their rightful place as my favorite band, because HOLY SHIT, MY CHEM LIVE = GREATEST THING EVER!!! Gerard had an amazing new jacket that mimicked his Black Parade jacket, only it's entirely black, and he looked so damn good. He's totes lost some weight, which makes it hard not to fangirl hardcore, so I'm trying to refrain as much as I can ^__^ Gerard's marker extravaganza continues; tonight he had "Mikey" written on his neck, which makes me AWWW like none other, even though I'm not a huge Mikey fan, but Gerard being a big brother? Very AWWW-inducing :D
The set list went something like this: This Is How I Disappear, The Sharpest Lives, I'm Not Okay, Give 'em Hell, Kid, Heaven Help Us (!!!!!!!!), Prison, Welcome to the Black Parade, House of Wolves, Famous Last Words, Mama, Dead!, Teenagers, Helena, and they closed with Cancer (strange, but cool anyway).
Every one of them looked like they were having a blast; that being said, I'm not terribly worried about Gerard anymore. There were no sunglasses, just so you know ;-) Speaking of the Way boy, he was ON FIYAH! There was teh booty shaking, blowing kisses to the crowd, one wink, chicken dance, all the good stuff. He licked his hand at least three times. Instead of crying after Mama, he actually slowly ran his hand from mouth to chest to crotch saying "First base, second base, third base" while the fangirls broke my eardrums :/ Not that I didn't enjoy it, but the excessive screaming is pretty lame. Once in between songs, he stalked over to my left, saying something along the lines of, "You know, I had no idea San Diego would be full of such fucking beautiful people, especially *waves hand over entire stadium* this section." XD LMAO, I ♥ you Gerard; I'm so glad you've come back to us. He even gave Matt a little, barely-noticable ass tap, but Matt took it in stride like a pro (massive love for Cortez, for realz). Also, Matt? Hot like burning, people.
And Frankie, oh Frankie. I'm declaring my undying love, right here, right now. Frank Iero is sex on legs. Floor convulsions? Check. Schoolboy outfit? Check. Glorious mane of hair? Check. Rad guitar playing? Check. Open-mouth sexface look? Check. He definitely spat a lot, but he also sat down right at the edge of the stage during Teenagers and spent some quality time with us in the pit, singing along, rocking out, then laying down and oh-so-casually crossing his legs for the finish. He basically humped a light.
