I got tagged by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] periculosa

List your 5 favorite bands, then list your 5 favorite songs from each band. Tag 5 people to do the same.
The top four bands are consistently my faves, whereas the fifth is pretty much a revolving door.

The Beatles
Across the Universe
I Am the Walrus
Martha My Dear
Hey Jude
Eleanor Rigby

Fall Out Boy
Saturday
The (After) Life of the Party
XO
The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes
7 Minutes in Heaven (Atavan Halen)

The Decemberists
Odalisque
On the Bus Mall
The Tain
Leslie Anne Levine
I Don't Mind

My Chemical Romance
The Ghost of You
This Is How I Disappear
Heaven Help Us
Cemetery Drive
Dead!

Panic at the Disco
Camisado
Nails For Breakfast, Tacks For Snacks
Do You Know What I'm Seeing?
Nine in the Afternoon
But It's Better If You Do

And I'm not tagging anyone, so feel free to do the meme if you feel like it.

So I'm listening to the new clips from Pretty. Odd. over here and I am Ridiculously. Excited. (hah, I laugh at you and your surviving pretentious streak, Panic) And I've come to the conclusion that this is a big fat love letter to The Beatles. Well. I knew that from the moment I heard Nine in the Afternoon, but validation just tastes so good :D

Is it bad that I've already got a feel for which songs I kind of think I'll be skipping at some point? As I've said before, I despise country, but for Panic's sake I'll hold off judgment. And while I ADORE that they're doing The Beatles, I wonder if Panic will be able to maintain a sense of identity. It's already obvious that they sound next to nothing like they used to, save that they can still create some catchy ass tunes and their aptitude for melody hasn't diluted in the slightest. But if anything, I want them to do it their way, so as long as that happens, I'm sound as a pound.

Good day at work today, and once I'm through tomorrow, I'm free for the weekend and working my ass off over spring break. Hopefully I can get some stuff done (and by "some stuff", I clearly mean "writing") and see some of my friends that I haven't seen in a while. I feel awful about not staying in contact with a couple of my friends from high school, and I. Feel awkward. Calling them up out of the blue like this. But I'm guilty and I'm lonely and I really want to rebuild some bridges, even if I'm not sure if they've collapsed.

And I know some really shitty things have been happening to the good people of my flist, so I send love, hugs. Anything that's really fucking useless unless I'm there in person to deliver it. How I wish I was.

Ooohh, we have a lot of the same favorite songs! Also, this made me realize that I seriously need to get more Decemberists albums, I only have Picaresque and The Crane Wife.

This is what I've been worried about too. Like, I knew I was excited for Pretty. Odd. but I also knew that there was something I wasn't feeling so good about, and I think you managed to articulate it. So yeah. :/ I'm definitely holding off judgment until I listen to it a few times though.

Seriously! The next I'd rec getting are Castaways and Cutouts and The Tain (torrents are your friend, Sarah), and, well, everything they've done ^__^ mininova.org (I think) has a torrent of the performance I went to--The Decemberists with the LA Philharmonic Orchestra @ the Hollywood Bowl. SO MUCH AWESOMENESS.

While I am slightly worried, I'm confident that I'll enjoy it one way or another. I just don't know if I could handle a massive genre-defying shift every time Panic decides to put out an album. But, if anything, I'm still so looking forward to the release :D
