Just killing time. Nothing to see here. Move along, move alonglike I know you do
Look at your LJ userpics list. If you have fewer than 50 icons, pick every fifth one. If you have between fifty and seventy-five icons, pick every seventh one. If you have over seventy-five icons, pick every tenth one. If you have fewer than ten, pick all of 'em. List them on your LJ, and tell everyone exactly why you have it, why it's interesting to you, and what significance it has.
You'll find that a lot of my explanations for picking my icons involve the words "It's so pretty". :D
1.
Brendon Urie, how so fabulous? As much as I love Bden's hyper spastic energy, I love the quiet moments more, so little captures like this are quite incredible--plus I love the framing of the icon.
2.
You'll find that, in addition to the pretty factor, I love icons that have the subject off-center. I have a theory that it's connected to my way of thinking because I tend to make no sense to anyone but myself, as anyone who has met me in real life can attest, but also because I like looking at the world in a very sideways, Tim Burtonesque way.
Also, Jon Walker.
3.
House is one of my favorite shows ever; really, it's just brilliant. Sometimes, it gets a little bit pants, but that's the nature of a show based on bizarre medical mysteries. This shot is great because it has House in one of his thinky phases, and black&white is elegant, leaves no room for frivolity, only for grace and exactness. Anyway, Hugh Laurie is god. Period.
4.
Seeing a pattern yet? B&W + off-center cropping = MAXIMUM ANGST. Ten is my favoritest little angst muffin in the world wide multiverse. I'm about 99% sure this is from The Runaway Bride after Donna rejects him, and on top of it he's just lost his Rose, and the snow in the picture just make the sadness complete.
5.
For pure comedy purposes. This line pretty much made me love Martha before The Powers That Be went on a prolific character assassination mission, but the snark will always have a special place in my heart.
6.
OMG JOHN SIMM ♥♥♥ Johnnycakes was FABULOUS as the Master; completely sadistic, insane, enjoying his power just a little too much. It's pretty much his fault that I decided to give the old skool Masters a shot after kind of writing them off, and I thank him very much for it. And the ridiculous sexual tension he had with David Tennant. Can't forget that.
Anyways, this is the shot after the Doctor addresses him for the first time, one on one (over the phone, whatever), and even if you haven't seen Classic Who, you can feel their history leak through the conversation and the tension makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.
7.
Ahhh, my love! I was really surprised, when I went back to watch Classic Who episodes, to find someone I love more than Ten. Someone who thought high fashion was a stick of celery pinned to his lapel, to boot. Five is an old soul trapped in a young man's body, one that's in dire need of hugging. Seriously, Five gets his ass kicked nearly every damn episode, but always comes uproses Rose Doctor every time, optimism, boyish grin and all. Again with the off-center shot and b&w <3
8.
Nyssa and Tegan! Although I really liked Turlough and (OMG) Peri (oh yes, I said it, bitch), Nyssa and Tegan were always my favorite companions who traveled with Fivey. They played off each other very well because they were so different: Nyssa, the dignified aristocrat with a sweet temperament, smart as a whip; Tegan, fiery hothead, often utterly useless, but she kept the Doctor in line most of the time and had a heart of gold. I love how OMGBESTFRIENDSFOREVARRRR they got to be together, especially after Adric's death and Tegan rejoins the team in Arc of Infinity. You can tell they were just thick as thieves and I love them for it ^__^
9.
Moar Doctor Who ♥ This time, it's Four and his Sarah Jane Smith, a pair who work incredibly well with each other, so much so that I didn't really mind Harry Sullivan and his frankly sexist ways all that much, because Sarah Jane could kick his ass.
"Call me 'old girl' again and I'll spit in your eye." Huah! You go gurl.
I admittedly haven't seen as much Four as I should because I was working backwards when it came to Classic Who, but I've got up to Planet of Evil and I adore him. Not as much as Five, Ten, and Eight, but quite a lot ^__^
10.
I was hoping to hit this icon. This is Five carrying Peri back to the TARDIS at the end of The Caves of Androzani, while both of them are rapidly dying of poison. Androzani is frankly the most sublime episode of Doctor Who ever; solid story, wonderful acting, and direction that breathes new life into the series, revolutionary for DW at that point in time because up until then it had all been very theatrical, characters staged like the audience is at one end and the camera is not allowed to go anywhere while the actors are all in wide shots.
This is the first episode Graeme Harper directed for Doctor Who, a name fans might recognize if you're into New Who. Think Utopia, Planet of the Ood, The Unicorn and the Wasp, and, funnily enough, Time Crash, just for starters. But his sense of style and what the script gives Peter Davison to work with and develop the Doctor is truly spectacular. Mind you, you can't just jump to Androzani without having seen the rest of Five's episodes because A) it's his final before regeneration *SOB*, giving it an added poignancy, and B) you miss the progression his character has made and won't understand his sacrifice in its full scale.
Anyways. Back to the icon. It's just a gorgeous shot, and the orangish/yellowish glow doesn't detract from the desolation of the setting, nor the gravity of the scene. Five finally gets to have his Big Damn Hero moment, just a bit too late; a perfect summation of the tragedy of his life.
Wow, I am so long-winded -__-
*twirls off into the ethers of the internet once more*
EDIT I just shifted my icons around again, but I did this before that and I'm not redoing it :-P Really, I pity anyone who uses that "notify me when this user uploads a new icon" option on me. PITY.
