I'm pretty bummed that the trailer for the new BBC Holmes series has been smited (smote?) by the mighty Beeb, but there's more and more stuff being released daily :) Not much longer until the 25th, so hah. All the same, I feel compelled to pimp out sherlockbbc and encourage people to come chat about it, if you feel so inclined. Looks like it'll be epic! :D


In the interim of end-of-semester and the upcoming one, I've been spending most of my time babysitting my cousin the devil child, who's a little more rambunctious than I have the energy for on most occasions, but I'm remembering what I was like when I was his age XD Now plz to be stop using me as a jungle gym, do not want another pinched nerve in mah back -__-

I've been listening to Dhani Harrison's band, Thenewno2, all day today guys <3 I needed a large dollop of happy to wash out the taste of fandom wank, and this is exactly what I wanted. I KNOW THERE ARE GEORGE/DHANI FANGIRLS ON MY FLIST. YOU. YEAH YOU. COME FLAIL WITH ME NAO.

I was gearing up to have an epic happy weekend, but it turns out John and Sam went out of town, but I still get to keep Big Boss (the turtle *g*) company. I can't remember when it started becoming necessary to have my brother around for me to have a good weekend, but a lot of things about him and our relationship in general have been sneaking up on me lately.

Yesterday, he played "Martha My Dear" on the piano and I just absently whistled along and felt content.

Going for a srs bsns case, and two years out of the last American Government class I've taken, I'm going with Brown v. Board of Education (1954), which dissolved the "separate but equal" rule, overturning the ruling in Plessy v. Ferguson.

The bare bones history of this is that in Plessy, the Supreme Court ruled that the quality of the facilities allotted for use by black Americans were equal to those in use by white Americans (definitely not true), thus not violating their Fourteenth Amendment right, though it did perpetuate deep-seated racism. The facility in question in the case were railroad cars, separated into black and white cars. In Brown, a suit was filed against the Topeka Board of Education asking for the abolition of racial segregation. While Plessy hadn't required segregation, it did permit it. Brown overturned the ruling, which helped kick of the Civil Rights movement <3

Broke down and finally bought a new charger for my Powerbook today--85 bucks. My soul hurt a little after that, but then I found Hot Fuzz on sale for $10 and my day brightened considerably. Also, my battery life will no longer be complete shite \o/

Sidenote: semi-unpopular opinion of the day: Hot Fuzz > Shaun of the Dead. OH IT SAID IT.

I've delayed asking my dad if our Epic Roadtrip would be alright by him, pretty much because I'm terrified he'll say no and I'll be completely crushed. But then again, he won't be around at the time of the trip, so I'm just thinking of saying "fuck it" and doing it anyway. I'm already planning on picking up a second job once the semester ends in May, so we'll see how it works out.

Speaking of class, I've got to finish (and by finish, I mean get off my lazy and and start) a music ethnography on my brother (lol) and have it done and ready to present by Tuesday--nothing huge, just enough interview material and analysis to fill four minutes or so and then presenting a music sample and everything will be just peachy. I think I'll actually be a unique little snowflake since everyone else is either doing some form of local punk or the Hallelujah fare from the churches they go to, and since John plays in blues jazz and rock ensembles (on trombone), I'll bring ~flavor ^__^
