Okay, quickie post just to say that my reaction to Forest of the Dead can be summed up in two words: Not. Impressed.

Oh, what happened, Moff?

EDIT Also, hi, besides figuring everything that was going to happen out in the first episode, I knew what the forest would be too. GET OFF THE FUCKING TARDIS, I'M THE BLOODY DOCTOR. [/Ranty McCapslock]

I tried to make a shortlist, but ended up listing most of what I disliked about it.

*Donna being made of win entails her kicking down doors while the Doctor is pussyfooting around with the sonic screwdriver, not the writer shoving her aside for another Romance From Out Of Space The Blue a la The Girl in the Fireplace (an ep which I really can't stand, btw)

*Apparently the best existence women can hope for is marriage and kids, not independence (read: flying around the universe, kicking ass and taking no shit), and women also must become hideously disfigured for their IQs to move a few decimal points.

*chances they're actually going to come back to Professor Mary Sue in the long run: not very. That leaves the ultimate sin in writing about what looks to be the Doctor's future wife: off-screen romance. It will never show up in front of our eyes, just like we'll never see anything from the Time War.

*It was so utterly. predictable. Honestly, I'd expected more from the Moff, but by the halfway point of Silence in the Library I'd guessed everything that was going to happen, except for the Donna's Domestic Bliss show of tedium the second ep became, and that was only because it was never hinted that the people that were "saved" ever went anywhere within CAL's land of make-believe.

*Even if I did like River, I wouldn't have wished a "half-life" (Lux's words) on her like it was forced on CAL. The Doctor's need to save everyone doesn't irk me so much, but I did wish it would have been toned down a bit since Voyage of the Damned, since the pretty much was the point of that episode, slapped right in his face.

*Too much self-referencing wank on the Moff's, not enough fresh ideas to keep things interesting. And don't come back with the River/Ten Doomed Romance story, because A) he already did that with Madame du Pompadour, B) it's a riff of The Time Traveler's Wife, thusly PREDICTABLE and boring, emotional kick to the guts-wise as well.

The only things I really like about the episode were the music, the atmosphere, the direction, Tate n' Tennant acting their asses off, and the fact the River died, if not only because the TARDIS is going to be crowded enough in the series finale. And that's obviously not the only reason.

Hello! :) I found you via timeandchips and just wanted to say THANK YOU. My thoughts exactly. I feel so alone amongst these 'OMG the episode was the BEST. EVER' reactions I really needed to read something close to what I felt like. ;)

You're very welcome, love :-) I really just want to emphasize that I disliked it from a non-shipping view as much as from a shipping one--either way, you can plainly see that there is no real logic to the entire situation, as well as a producer perspective, as in another two episodes or so we have Rose coming back. Worst. timing. ever., Moff.

Oh gosh, you are so not alone D: I'm kind of horrified by the sea of squee that has come in the wake of this episode. We must stick together in this mess!

Yeah, It's a little bit tiring to see some people say we disliked the story and/or the lovestory with Riversong just because we're bitter shippers. Some fans hated the episode and could hardly be qualified as D/R shippers. There are valid arguments for disliking the episode (I had many problems with it apart from the love story and only found tiny tidbits that made the thing watchable, all involving Tate and Tennant in some way ;)) and the love story IS debatable too. It's not a matter of never wanting the Doctor to be with someone else (DW has always been a show with LOTS of ships going on...), it's a matter of finding it very shallow. I don't believe Riversong is the right thing for the Doctor (for what we saw because we don't know her at all actually...) because they didn't click, because the actors have no romantic chemistry, because the Doctor would've barely looked her way if she hadn't told him she knew him, because a doomed relationship is not something to rejoice about given the Doctor's angst o'meter reaching a high lately... And it was badly timed (Moff could've at least waited for Season 5... would've made much more sense...)

Me too! ;) Shippers united! lol I'm convinced it comes from the fact Moffat is way too much worshipped around here, it's like he can do no wrong. Had RTD written the episode, a lot of people would've hated it... But I'm sure that Moffat worshipping will end once he is in charge because people will see he's not as perfect as he once was and besides bashers tend to hate the main writer (never got why... ;))

I'm stopping rambling on your LJ now. :P

Mind if I friend you? :)

And I thought I was the only one who didn't feel any romantic vibes whatsoever between the Doctor and River \o/ And I totally agree; I get really angry at the people who think that those who dislike this two-parter/Girl in the Fireplace are just bitter, angry D/R shippers; there's perfectly logical explanations for hating the eps.

Had RTD written the episode, a lot of people would've hated it

I hadn't even thought of that, but it's so true; people would be tearing this apart if it wasn't the Moff. I'm already about half and half with him since I think The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Blink and Time Crash are fantastic, but the others irk me to no end, in no small part due to the extremely insulting stance he takes on women. I predict a bit of Moff revisionist history before or during the start of his reign.

Not at all! I love getting new friends, and as it stands, I need more Whovians on my flist. Welcome!

Yeah, me too, I loved the Empty child/The Doctor dances and Blink and immensely disliked 'gitf' and 'sitl/fod'... It's all or nothing with Moff for me. ;) The weird thing is sometimes he gets women right (Blink) and sometimes he just gets them wrong (Reinette and the alikes...) I think his biggest problem is probably the way he keeps trying to bring in some Mary Sues into the show...

Okay, great, then! Am adding you, I need Who fans too, lol! ;)
