Panicking at the Disco on Midnight :-)

La dee da, stuff! I have stuff to write home about! :D

First, the new Doctor Who episode, Midnight, aka, THE BEST EP OF THE SEASON.

Seriously, I adored this episode, which, in itself, is utterly AMAZING because I'm usually of two minds over RTD's episodes: he either produces the fucking epically gorgeous (see: Doomsday) or the spectacularly failtastic (see: The Long Game, The Last of the Time Lords, etc.) Midnight is firmly in the former category.

The beginning is really typical Rusty writing and pacing: short, fluffy scenes introducing the Doctor to his environment, forging relationships with the humans and establishing that Donna is not going to be a big factor in a physical sense. What follows is like a disaster movie; this is basically what Voyage of the Damned could have been, had it been set in one room. When the plot gets rolling and shit starts hitting the fan, RTD goes against convention, against fan expectancy, against everything the Doctor knows about getting out of horrific situations:

No one trusts him.

For once, being Clever is not enough to get him a free ticket to the supporting characters; they ask questions. Exactly why is he so special? Why can't he say his real name, what's with all this "Doctor" crap? And without Donna there to help him, he's up a creek without a paddle. When it comes right down to it, he cannot help anyone if they won't let him.

And it terrifies him, not being in control of the situation. It goes against everything he is. The last time he looked that scared was when Rose was out of his grasp as she was flying toward the Void and he could do nothing to help her. The gradual build up of his utter loss of control, even over his own body, is horrifying to watch, and I'm not afraid to admit it, I was so close to breaking down when the humans fully turned against him, when the woman was screaming at them to drag him faster and throw him out of the vehicle to die, TO DIE. He wanted to help them and they wanted to kill him. Some life, isn't it, Doctor?

And everything, for once as far as RTD eps are concerned, comes full circle at the end. The woman who was screaming for his execution weakly tries to tell him she realized he was right, and the Doctor has never looked so utterly disappointed in humans in his life. After chatting with them and befriending them and looking like he was downright going to start a karaoke party during the trip, they tried to kill him and it hurt him deeply.

On the flipside, Donna has never been more important to him, hugging him at the end and basically being his rock in the midst of all this insanity, when he needed it most. Just in time for his world to get rocked again next week with Rose's return.

Guh. RTD, you're pretty much forgiven for every discretion ever. lovelovelovelovelove.

And secondly, of Sweet Tangerines and Panicking at the Disco \o/

OMG, how amazing was HCT? EPICALLY!!!

Hi, Panic Boys and Hushies, thank you for bringing me back to bandom ♥♥♥ Though this was the first time I've seen both Panic and the Hushies in concert, I haven't got a ton to say (other than CAPSLOCK GLEE) but I shall bullet point it:

*Greta is the most adorable squishy girl of awesomeness in the whole wide world
*Bob is a complete dork, as I expected, and he wore this maroon (what I think is) velvet jacket that I kind of wanted to take home ^__^
*Me, looking at the side of the stage during Motion City Soundtrack's set: "OH I SEE YOU, SPENCERSMITH."
*PANIC ASDFHKA;RNIAER;OFG.KVSHJERBNF;.
*BUBBLE MACHINES. THEY HAD BUBBLE MACHINES
*LEGS OF WOOD WAVES, WAVES OF WOODEN LEGS <---- best part of the show! They slowed us down and got everyone waving their arms back and forth and I really should have brought my camera.
*Snaps and JAZZ HANDS during "These Tables Are Numbered For A Reason..." JAZZ FUCKING HANDS. MY LOVE FOR PANIC KNOWS NO BOUNDS.
*Seeing Ryan and Brendon sing at the same mic is something I didn't know I needed to see before my life was complete ♥
*Jon Walker exists.
*SPENCERSMITH AND HIS BANDANNA OF AWESOME.
*Brendon being so excited about singing Folkin' Around was adorable *GGGG*
*I lol at all the people who left after Northern Downpour, because they missed Brendon walking back out all by his lonesome, wielding a deadly acoustic guitar, and toasting us with his cup saying "This Corona's for you" XDDD And we did as instructed during Time to Dance, singing to keyboard part for him ^__^
*The Weight!
*BRENDON ON BASS DURING MAD AS RABBITS!
*All the bands rushed out at the very end of Mad As Rabbits and crowded around the mics. Someone from Phantom Planet put Ryanross on his shoulders and he looked Greatly Amused XD
*Ryan and Brendon hanging off each other like the BFFs they are and stumbling offstage was extremely happy-making.

And now, pics! I didn't bring my camera because our seats were a little to far away (and I couldn't see Brendon's stupid faaaace), but I capped my merch and the Shirts Of Awesome that Sam and I made, as seen here:

And Sam straightened my hair for the event, so here's me camwhoring it up:

In conclusion: JAZZ HANDS.

NNNRRGHHH YESSS!! Reading your post got me all re-happified about my HCT date and how awesome it was!! ARGH THEY'RE SO MUCH FUN TO SEE LIVE I NEED TO DO IT AGAIN. Oh, and I should probably post my recap some day soon. -__-

Also, re: bubble machines. IT IS MY FRIENDS' FAULT THAT THEY DO THAT NOW. I think it was [livejournal.com profile] hellocalamity and [livejournal.com profile] atorable? UGH I CAN'T REMEMBER. I think it was them. Anyway, at the second NYC date (which I attended) they were on the barrier blowing bubbles all throughout the show, and the panic boys were so amused by them. Brendon ATE one and Ryan was staring at them and possibly giggling. And after that, they got a bubble machine. o_O I THINK THAT'S HILARIOUS TBH.

Whoa, you made that shirt? It's amazing! I'D TOTALLY WEAR THAT TBH.

Whey hey! Midnight was truly an amazing episode, really tightly written and jam packed with tension for almost the entire 45 minutes.

Love your hair, btw :) Glad you had a good time!

EXISTS! FAAAAAAAAAAAAACE! BUBBLES AND RABBITS AND LEGS! AND THE EXCLAMATION OF GLEE WHICH I INITIALLY MISREAD AS 'SPENCER SMITH AND HIS BANANA OF AWESOME'. LOL, EUPHEMISM.

I love you hair straightened. This is coincidental, as I visited Ellie yesterday/today, who had also straightened her hair, which I also liked lots.

I ALSO LIKE YOU LOTS. WELL DONE, YOU.
