picspam therapy: I should patent this stuff
I don't even care about winning arguments if there isn't any civility in it. I think that's the thing that stays with me about this whole stupid internet dick measuring contest we call fandom; it's not that someone disagrees, it's that they're insulting about it, and it's rubs me the wrong way when I have to return it.
There's a way to be insistent and make your point without disparaging someone or a group of people, there always is, just like there's a way to make an argument not based on crazed shipping, or being attacked for liking something. I thought the secret was out of line in the way all anonymous things tend to be, but when you know who you're talking to, when you know something about someone--and this someone happened to like Wincest, which gets lots of flak on its own--and get the "you're crazy for liking this character/person/ship, it's because of your kind of people I don't like what the show's doing" treatment when you haven't even come close to hitting below the belt, it fucking sucks. It's an unhappy business. And it's distasteful, and pretty much the antithesis of what you'd want to find in a fandom.
I'm happy to have my flist. I'm happy to be with people that actually like the show, its plot direction, its characters, the actors and the crew and the fan creations. I like being not being judged for being positive. You are my happy bubble and I hope to not leave it ♥
I've told myself I'm not going to go to f!s at least for a while; it's the most volatile part of fandom I've associated with, and it's a breeding ground for negativity. I'm staying with the ONTD comm, the sanest, most laid back bunch of SPN fans in existence (♥)
And to occupy myself, I kind of went on a screencapping spree *looks sheepish* spoilers for anyone who hasn't hit the fourth season :) Funny that this is my go to happy episode, since it was so chock full of misery and blood and shadowy coloring, haha. But it's my favorite, and there's very little I don't enjoy about this ep <3
I actually think this whole opening sequence is one of the best, true cold opens SPN has done. I have a soft spot for the beginning of "Faith" and "Yellow Fever" too :)
I wonder if the wings are really black? We see them only as shadows (and charcoal, but that's later in the episode), and that's a damn cool and effective image, but maybe in heaven they're actually white?
The visual symmetry of the angel with Mary Winchester and Jessica makes me nerd out so hardcore :D Chuck even mentioned that Dean sold his soul for the sake of literary symmetry, and I forget, is Chuck the stand in for Kripke or a head writer? Self meta is apparent, though.

ALASTAIR ♥♥♥ you fabulously creepy, sadistic bastard
maybe an unintended affect of the film filtering, but I find it fascinating that there's an inhuman lack of color in Dean's eyes at almost all times in 4.16.
SAMMY! You are saying horrible things in this scene, but I like seeing you actually in episodes, so I won't complain.

It's the dark hair/pale skin combo, I'm almost certain of it.

I wasn't actually going to include a cap of a light exploding, but I'd paused the dvd to talk to my uncle for a sec, and this was the frame it landed on. It looked too cool to leave out :D
I find that I can better deal with Anna when it's restricted to picture form, lol

I'm sorry you're having to deal with insulting toolbags. I like to think I'm pretty open minded about hearing other peoples opinions, even if I totally disagree with them, but the minute they start getting insulting or use crazy logic and rules that apply to one group but not to another I give up.
The thing that annoys me most about fandom? It's like people can't like one thing without attacking people who like something different. Not everything exists to the detriment of your ship/favourite character, people!
I always find it really weird that people can't seem to understand that some of us will like different things than they do, that we'll like different characters. It's like, I loved Ruby (Kate Cassidy version, at least) but my BFF really hated her. We both had our reasons why, and would have discussions about it, but we still sat down and watched the show together, every week. It is possible to have differing opinions and stay civil and just go 'fandom is not a hive mind, we are individuals with our own opinions on characters in shows, it is not the end of the world if some people like different things'. /rant. Sorry, sometimes fandom and the crazies drive me insane. Good on you for standing up and making your point resonably and defending an awesome character!
