i'd always had this idea that california was this laid-back place of awesome with palm trees & sunsets, & while i guess it was kind of like that when we were there, & i truly love the sea, i didn't get the same kind of sense of belonging that i did when we were in chicago. i don't know what it was, but. chicago was everything, & like, i couldn't conceive of ever settling in california. don't get me wrong, it wasn't bad, but. you get it. chicago, man. ♥
In actuality, you are spot-on, but from what I've seen in my limited travel of my own state, that description applies only to coastal areas, though it is the stereotype of Cali. California is quite business-oriented, though not as urban as, say, New York City. It's a very busy state, very lucrative, lots of rich people with the jobs necessary to pay such extravagant housing costs. It really is only The Life when you have the money to enjoy it, otherwise, it's a grind, just like anywhere else.
*may be quite disillusioned*
Chicago is the place. We need to go back sometime.
