OMG (as Daniel would say)
Apr. 13th, 2005 12:01 pmMmmkay, so every other Wednesday a lady comes by to clean the house, and the best thing for us to do is get the heck outta dodge. Dad went on a walk (he's down to 227!), so John and I went to the Village Book Exchange. We played with the kitty for a while, and John picked up some William Faulkner book, then we headed for Walmart so John could pick up one of those CD-to-tape players and some deodorant.
By the time we get back to the house the cleaning lady was still there, and we didn't feel like hanging out while she finished, so we cruised over to a cafe called Pipes. There was this pretty large group of these guys that just looked gnarly, so John figured they were some bigtime surfers, and left it at that. I looked over to the guy on the end (kinda Asian-looking) and thought "Well, he looks kinda familiar." Then I went to the next guy...and an alarm rang in my head.
("John.") *tug* *tug*
"..."
("JOHN!") *TUG* *TUG*
("What?*)
("That's Paul Kariya.")
*glance* ("NO WAY.")
("Yeah-huh!")
*so on and so forth*
For those of you who are allergic to hockey, Paul Kariya was the captain of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks for ten years before joining another team through free agency last year. So John and I order our meals and keep looking at eachother and shaking ours heads, trying not to stare and, basically, in disbelief. After about fifteen minutes the whole group got and started filing out. I gave one glance at John, took a sip of water, and went for it. Course it was real short, but I was suprised at how nice he was about it, with all his friends being there ("Hey nice to meet you. What's your name?"). I shook his hand and everything *squee*
So, yeah, my day is already made :-D
