Apr. 12th, 2005 09:55 pm'Kay, so I was cruising the tube for something relevent to watch yesterday, all the while figuring out the reason why we go to school on weekdays. Thank god for spring break, though. Anyways, I flip to TCM and it turns out they're having a feature on all the oldschool comedians from the black n' white era, as per tribute for April Fools'. Presently, they were showing a biography of Charlie Chaplin, and I was instantly fascinated. I mean, I knew who he was (of course), but I'd never cared enough to find out more about him. So the more I watched, the more I wanted to know about him (I'm not about to explain the details of his life here, but he's absolutely fascinating. I highly recommend reading up on him). He's said and done a lot of really interesting things, and throughout the documentary clips of his movies were played that showed off his utter brilliance. His brand of comedy is genuine, so different and unlike the immature humor of today, that I immediately took to it and felt better; meaning the absolute light-heartedness and innocence of the comedy just made me feel a whole lot better about everything going on in my life right now; everything (like the media, for example) is usually such a downer. There's also this unspoken melancholy in his films (showed after the documentary), an ever-so-slight tint of sadness in Charlie's eyes, that makes it so believable, and keeps his films from floating off into happy-go-lucky land.
I honestly don't know why he's affected me so much, but all I know is that I feel better. Not just emotionally, but I feel as though I'm a better person. Maybe that was his intention; maybe not. The story of his life is quite tragic, as are many, but he seems exceptional. I think I'll watch more movies.
